An assistant professor of chemistry is developing a tiny testing kit that women can carry in their purses and use to quickly detect date-rape drugs.
一位化学助理教授正在研发一种小巧的测试工具，女士们可把它放在钱包里并可用它迅速测试出用于“约会强暴”的迷魂药。
Andrea Holmes, who teaches at Doane College in Crete, said many women on college campuses were being affected by this.

Date-rape drugs such as Rohypnol are secreted into a person‘s drink. The drug incapacitates the person and causes memory loss. Men and women who have been raped while under its influence can regain their senses with no memory of the assault.
“约会强暴”药物 – 例如“迷奸药”- 会被偷偷地下到人们的饮料中。这种药物使人浑身无力并且导致记忆丧失。在这种药物作用下被强暴的男女事后能恢复意识却无法记起被袭过程。
Holmes said what they wanted to do was to determine the presence of the drug before it ever entered the body.

She‘s hoping to develop a small strip or stick that would turn a certain color if dipped into a drink that had been spiked with roofies.
她希望研发一种小纸条或是小棒，如果把它浸入已经加入迷奸药的饮品中就能变成某种颜色。
In May, she and three student researchers reached a milestone: They concocted a chemical mixture that turns from blue to colorless when Rohypnol is added.
五月份，她和三名研究生取得了里程碑似的进展：他们调和出一种化学混和物，当迷奸药被加入时可以由蓝色变为无色。
Holmes said it took them weeks and weeks before making the breakthrough.
霍密斯说这项研究花费了他们好多周的时间，直到实现这个突破。
Other researchers have made progress on similar ideas.
其他研究人员也已经在类似领域取得了进展。
The Drink Detective was introduced in Britain in 2004. A few drops of a detection liquid are placed on a pad that has been dipped into a drink. The pad changes colors if roofies were put into the drink.
2004年，英国引进一种叫“饮料侦探”的测试液。滴几滴这种测试液在浸过饮品的小垫上。如果饮品中被放入了迷奸药，那么小垫则会变色。
Holmes wants something even smaller and simpler: a paper sensor that can fit into a pocket or small handbag.
霍密斯想要发明更小巧更简便的检测工具：一种可以放入口袋或是小手包里的试纸。
"It is a big, big area of research," she said. "Everybody is trying to create their own sensor."
“这是一个很大的研究领域，”她说道，“每个人都试着发明出他们自己的检测工具。”
